There are three sources of funding at St. Francis Xavier’s School.
- Commonwealth & State recurrent funding. The majority of this funding is from the Commonwealth and is calculated on a per child basis.
- School Fees
- Small grants from Catholic Education Services
A Tuition Fee per student is charged for children attending Catholic schools in the Cairns Diocese. This is determined before the commencement of each year by Catholic Education Services and is the same across all Catholic Schools in the Diocese. Accounts are sent out each term, and payment is made through the School Office. A Statement of Account should accompany payment when paying at the School Office. School fees are due on receipt of the account and are 14 day accounts. All parent/carers are expected to make payment of school charges a high priority in their family’s budgeting.
A resource levy is charged yearly for each child attending St. Francis Xavier’s. This fee is charged via your quarterly fee statement. The fee is used to purchase resources required for the learning and teaching of students
A fee is charged each year to employ a Maintenance and Grounds person as well as to purchase and maintain equipment at the school. This fee is charged quarterly and appears on your fee statement.
Parents And Friends Association Levy
The funds provided through the P&F Levy help to provide more and better educational resources and to develop the sense of school community. The contributions from school fees, levies and Parents and Friends Association are vital to the maintenance of a good educational environment in the school.
Our school is part of an independent school system; a need to charge fees arises from the policy of governments to deliver significantly lower per capita grants to non-state school than to Education Queensland schools. Whilst this means tuition fees and levies must be charged, it also ensures we are able to maintain some independence as a school system, thus allowing us to achieve the ideals of the Catholic Church in our school organisation.
The schedule of tuition fees is set by Catholic Education Services.
School Levies are set and reviewed annually by the School Board and approved by the Parish priest. These levies include:
- Building Levy (buildings and maintenance)
- P&F Fundraising Levy
- IT Levy
- Resource Levy
Discounts are at times offered to families. Please open the link below for further information on any possible discounts. Parents are often pleasantly surprised at the affordability of Catholic Education in the Cairns Diocese, especially when fee schedules are compared with those of other non-government schools such as private or independent schools, or capital city Catholic schools.
Every attempt is made to make an education at St. Francis Xavier’s affordable. Families experiencing financial hardship are able to make confidential arrangements with the school. Parents are required to contact the Finance Officer office to arrange an interview. No Catholic child will be denied a Catholic education because of financial difficulties.
Failure to follow school policy and procedures may result in the engagement of a Debt Recovery Agency.
The diocesan schedule of current tuition (school) fees is available from the school or the Catholic Education website.
