As Indigenous and Non-Indigenous people learning, working and living together we acknowledge the importance of the country upon which our school and our community stands. We respectfully acknowledge the traditional owners of this land, the Gimuy, Walaburra and Yidinji People. We acknowledge the contributions of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Island people and all other Australians who have helped to shape education in Australia.
As Catholics, it is our duty to love our neighbour and treat all with dignity and respect. Together we can learn so much about our beautiful land and about what it means to be human. For together we are one in land, one in spirit, one in faith, united in God’s love.
We encourage and warmly welcome our families to be actively involved in the life of the school and their children’s education. St Francis Xavier’s employs an Indigenous Liaison Officer whose role is to assist Indigenous families and students to belong to and connect with the school community. Each year we celebrate as a community NAIDOC week and we have meet and greet morning teas with the members of our indigenous families to help strengthen our bonds and community spirit.
