The Staff at St Francis Xavier’s believe that every student is special and unique and therefore has individual needs.
Classroom programs are carefully planned in an effort to cater for the majority of students. However, additional support is provided to those students who have been identified by the school as having a specific need. Students with specific needs are usually identified by the classroom teacher. When teachers become aware of children with learning difficulties, they bring this to the attention of the Principal and the Diverse Learning Team. Appropriate referral forms are then completed.
Appropriate intervention is provided in accordance with the school’s capacity to resource. Sometimes parents identify these students. If you, as a parent feel your son or daughter requires additional support you should first speak with your child’s teacher.
The Diverse Learning Teacher then works together with the classroom teacher to decide what level of support the student requires. Students with specific needs are students who are experiencing learning difficulties in literacy, numeracy or learning how to learn.
We also work in partnership with the Student Services Team at Catholic Education Services, accessing specialist services, programs and resources. This enables us to offer the best of services to all students and their families.
