Instrumental Music Programme

Instrumental group lessons are held during school time, usually using a rotational timetable for students. Group tuition is available for strings, woodwind, brass and percussion. Individual tuition is recommended for piano, drums and some orchestral instruments. Individual lessons are also recommended for those students who wish to prepare for external music examinations.
Instrumental Music Program – St Augustines College
There is also an Instrumental Program available for students from Years 3-6 who have the opportunity to learn a variety of instruments through private tutors and through music teachers from St Augustine’s College. Fees for tuition are paid directly to the music tutor or to St Augustine’s College. Lessons are scheduled during normal class time. The school also has a School Band and a School Choir, each of which meets once a week for rehearsal.

Excursions and Camps
Excursions and Camps are an important part of the School Curriculum. Our Year 6 students participate in a three day, two night camp each year. This experience is an essential part of their curriculum and helps the children to build life skills, grow in confidence and develop strong relationships and construct special memories.
Reader’s Cup Challenge
Students in Year 5 and 6 are invited to nominate for selection for the Far North Queensland regional Reader’s Cup Challenge, held in the month of June in Cairns.
Opti‑MINDS Challenge
Each year, a select team of enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 students represents St Francis Xavier’s School in the Opti‑MINDS Creative Sustainability Challenge. Opti‑MINDS is an inclusive team competition that empowers students to think, create and communicate as they work together to solve open‑ended, real‑world problems.
Working in small teams, students tackle a long‑term challenge in one of several categories—such as Language and Literature, Science and Engineering, or Social Sciences—where they are encouraged to use creativity, critical thinking and teamwork to develop an innovative solution.
Participation in Opti‑MINDS offers students a vibrant and supportive environment in which to extend their problem‑solving skills, collaborate effectively and showcase their talents in a public, highly engaging event.

School Sports
Training commences in first term for Cross Country and later for our Inter-House Sports. A School Representative Team competes in the district sports zone comprising other Catholic schools and Independent schools.

Sporting Teams

Throughout the year, representatives from the school will compete against other schools in various sports events.
Swimming
Water Confidence Lessons for Year 2 and 4 are held in Term 1 and for Year 6 are held in Term 4 (at Tobruk Memorial Pool).
